Cumulus, Clear Channel figure in Wisconsin station shuffle

The Wisconsin markets of Green Bay and Appleton-Oshkosh abut one another, and a station once deemed part of Green Bay has been reassigned to the other. The move allowed Cumulus to reel in a Green Bay station out of a trust, adding to a cluster there that Cumulus does not even own.

The station on the move is Oldies 103.1 WOGB-FM, licensed to Kaukauna WI. The move to the more southern of the two markets comes despite the fact that it still puts a primary contour over Green Bay. It puts one over Appleton as well, but does not fare as well a little further south where Oshkosh is located.

Nevertheless, the move allows Cumulus to pull WKRU-FM Allouez WI back into the fold from WI Radio LLC as Trustee, where it has been held under the TLC of Scott Knoblauch.

It joins a cluster of stations that Cumulus has been running in an LMA with industry giant Clear Channel on the basis of a contract struck 4/10/09. The stations include WDUZ AM-FM, WPCK-FM and WQLH-FM.

For its part, WOGB-FM moved in with an O&O cluster in the Appleton-Oshkosh market, where Cumulus also owns WVBO-FM, WPKR-FM, WOSH-AM and WNAM-AM.

There is an element of nostalgia in the deal – the licensee names of the Clear Channel Green Bay stations hearken back to the pre-Telecom days: Citicasters and Jacor.
