Dallas and airlines spots examined

Media Monitors took a look at airlines and Dallas radio spots this week. According to Arbitron, Dallas-Ft.-Worth, Texas is the fifth largest radio market with a population of 5,120,100. The city is the main cultural and economic center of the 12-county Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area, which has more than 6.1 million people.


Last week in the Metroplex, the #1 advertiser on the radio was WALMART with 1,243 spots. Coming in #2 was LIBERMAN TV with 670 spots, while STARPOWER (Home entertainment systems) was #3 running 647 ads. BOOTHE EYE CARE AND LASER CENTER was #4 airing 599 announcements and HOME DEPOT was #5 with 587 commercials. AT&T was #6 with 587 spots and GEICO was #7 with 577 spots. FOX TV NETWORK was #8 with 480 spots, while ACE CASH EXPRESS was #9 with 446 spots. And coming in #10 was VERIZON with 419 spots.

The #1 airline on the radio in America was MEXICANA with 661 spots. Coming in #2 was PORTER AIRLINES with 546 spots, while SOUTHWEST AIRLINES ran 524 spots and came in #3. HORIZON AIR (Alaska Air Group) was #4 airing 519 spots and EMIRATES was #5 with 476 spots. AIRTRAN AIRWAYS was #6 running 279 spots, while VIVA AEROBUS was #7 with 265 spots, while MIDWEST AIRLINES was #8 with 241 spots. AEROMEXICO was #9 with 163 spots and DIRECT AIR was #10 with 162 spots. Of note: AMERICAN AIRLINES was #11 with 158 spots, CONTINENTAL was #13 with 96 spots and DELTA AIR LINES was #23 with only 26 spots. To put this in perspective, JETBLUE AIRWAYS ran only 2 spots nationally on the radio last week.

On the national level, WALMART was back on top with 36,809 spots. GEICO was #2 with 30,367 spots, while HOME DEPOT was #3 and ran 25,178 commercials. The HD DIGITAL RADIO ALLIANCE was in at #4 and ran 24,605 announcements and FOX TV NETWORK was #5 running 23,909 spots.
