Dallas-Miami NBA championship started slow but has rebounded to match last year’s Boston-Lakers championship match-up. 


First five (5) game series match-up has proven a ratings winner for ABC and excellent coverage for NBA fans.

ABC Overshadows Thursday’s Prime in Viewers and Young Adults with Coverage Of the 2011 NBA Finals, Outdelivering its Combined Competition in Adults 18-49.

Hitting its Best-Numbers this Year, ABC’s “JKL Game Night” Jumps Year to Year And Continues to More than Double its 2010-11 Season Averages in Late-Night.

Thursday’s No. 1 TV Show in Viewers and Key Adults, the NBA Finals on ABC Stand As the Top-Rated Show of the Evening for 24 Consecutive Telecasts in Adults 18-49. 

The 2011 NBA Finals on ABC Scores the Top-Rated Game 5 Since ’04 in Young Adults.

On Average, the Dallas-Miami 2011 NBA Finals on ABC is Up Substantially Over The Last Time the Two Teams Met in 2006, Generating 7-Year Highs for the Series.

Thursday Night with coverage of the 2011 NBA Finals Game 5 (Dallas-Miami), ABC towered over Thursday’s primetime, outdrawing its nearest competitor by 5.6 million viewers (12.9 million vs. 7.3 million – CBS) and beating its combined network competition on CBS, NBC, Fox and CW in Adults 18-49 (5.1/15 vs. 5.0/15).  The Net finished No. 1 for the 5th consecutive night with its coverage of the 2011 NBA Finals among young adults (AD18-34/AD18-49) and across all key Men demos (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).

Building week to week in viewers and young adults, ABC tallied its biggest Thursday numbers in nearly 1 year – since 6/17/10 with Game 7 of the 2010 Lakers-Celtics NBA Finals. 

Miami-Dallas NBA Championship series:

“2011 NBA Finals Game 5” Featuring the Miami Heat at the Dallas Mavericks, ABC’s 2011 NBA Finals Game 5 soared over its primetime competition to finish as Thursday’s dominant No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (18.3 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics:  A18-34 (7.7/25), A18-49 (7.4/22) and A25-54 (7.6/20).  In the advertiser-coveted Adult 18-49 demographic, The Finals on ABC have registered as the No. 1 TV program of the night for 24 telecasts in a row. Dallas held off Miami’s 4th quarter rally to win 112-103 and go up 3-2 in best-of-seven series.

Similar to Tuesday’s Game 4, the 2011 NBA Finals on ABC produced the series’ biggest Game 5 ratings since 2004 (Pistons-Lakers) in Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34.  Furthermore in Adults 18-49, it was ABC’s 2nd-highest-ever non-series-clinching game in its 9 years of broadcasting The Finals.
 
Based on 5-game averages, the 2011 NBA Finals continues to outperform last year’s huge Lakers-Celtics match-up among in Adults 18-49 (6.6/19 vs. 6.5/19) and Adults 18-34 (6.8/22 vs. 6.6/21), posting 7-year highs for The Finals – since 2004.  Versus to the last time the same two teams met in The Finals in 2006, the 2011 Miami-Dallas NBA Finals is up substantially in Total Viewers (+29% – 16.1 million vs. 12.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (+29% – 6.6/19 vs. 5.1/16).    
 
Miami-Dallas Game 4 Tuesday with coverage of the 2011 NBA Finals (Miami-Dallas Game 4), ABC ranked No. 1 on Tuesday in Adults 18-49 for the 2nd week in row, beating NBC with “America’s Got Talent” leading into a 2-hour edition of “The Voice” (4.5/14 vs. 4.3/12).   The Net also won the night for the 2nd week running with Adults 18-34 and across all key Men (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54).

“2011 NBA Finals on Game 4” The 2011 NBA Finals on ABC Game 4, between the Miami Heat and the Dallas Mavericks, jumped over its primetime competition to stand as Tuesday’s No. 1 television program  in Total Viewers (16.1 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics:  A18-34 (6.9/22), A18-49 (6.7/19) and A25-54 (6.8/18).  In the Adult 18-49 sales demo, The Finals on ABC have qualified as the No. 1 TV program of the night for 23 straight broadcasts. Dallas rallied in the 4th quarter to win the game by a score of 86-83 and tie up the best-of-seven series 2-2.

In Adults 18-49 and Adults 18-34, the 2011 NBA Finals on ABC scored the highest Game 4 numbers since 2004 with the Lakers-Pistons match-up. 
 
Based on 4-game averages, the 2011 NBA Finals is trending above last year’s high-rated Lakers-Celtics match-up among Total Viewers (15.54 million vs. 15.52 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.4/18 vs. 6.3/19), marking The Finals’ strongest numbers in 7 years – since 2004.  Compared to the last time the same two teams met in The Finals in 2006, the Miami-Dallas 2011 NBA Finals is up by wide margins in Total Viewers (+30% – 15.54 million vs. 11.93 million) and Adults 18-49 (+31% – 6.4/18 vs. 4.9/15).   

“2011 NBA Finals Game 3” Based on Nielsen’s special-ordered program-based “Fast National Ratings,” ABC’s 2011 NBA Finals Game 3 between Miami and Dallas dominated the primetime landscape to finish as Sunday’s definitive No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (15.2 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics:  A18-34 (6.0 rating), A18-49 (6.1 rating) and A25-54 (6.5 rating).  It was the 3rd night in a row for the 2011 NBA Finals to stand as the No. 1 television show across the key adult categories.  In fact among Adults 18-49, The Finals have registered as the No. 1 TV program of the night for 22 consecutive telecasts.  The Miami Heat won Game 3 by a score of 88-86 to lead the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Based on 3-game averages, the 2011 NBA Finals is even with last year’s high-rated Lakers-Celtics matchup among Total Viewers (15.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (6.3 rating), matching the series’ best results in 7 years – since 2004.  Versus their last matchup in 2006, the 2011 Miami-Dallas series is up sharply in Total Viewers (+26% – 15.3 million vs. 12.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (+26% – 6.3 rating vs. 5.0 rating).   

“2011 NBA Finals Game 2” Featuring the Dallas Mavericks versus the Miami Heat, ABC’s 2011 NBA Finals Game 2 topped its primetime competition and ranked as Thursday’s No. 1 TV program in Total Viewers (15.5 million) and across each of the key Adult demographics:  A18-34 (6.7/23), A18-49 (6.5/19) and A25-54 (6.6/18).  It was the 2nd night in a row for the 2011 NBA Finals to register as the No. 1 TV show across the key adult categories.  With come-from-behind victory deep into the 4th quarter, Dallas won Game 2 by a score of 95-93 bringing the best-of-seven series to 1-1 tie.

Across all key Adult (AD18-34/AD18-49/AD25-54) and Men (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54) demographics, ABC’s 2011 Finals bettered or equaled its highest Game 2 ratings since 2004.  In addition, ABC marked its best-ever numbers for Game 2 with Women 18-34 and Teens 12-17  – since beginning carriage in 2003.

Game 2 was up considerably from the last time the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks met in The Finals, jumping 25% in Total Viewers and 23% in Adults 18-49 over the same game in 2006 (12.4 million and 5.3/15 on 6/11/06).   

Based on 2-game averages, the 2011 NBA Finals is up over last year’s high-rated Lakers-Celtics matchup among viewers (+3% – 15.3 million vs. 14.9 million) and young adults (+7% – 6.5/19 vs. 6.1/18), tracking as the series’ biggest numbers in 7 years – since 2004.  

“2011 NBA Finals Game 1” Featuring the Dallas Mavericks at the Miami Heat, ABC’s 2011 NBA Finals Game 1 beat out its primetime competition and finished as Tuesday’s definitive No. 1 TV program across each of the key Adult demographics:  A18-34 (6.8/21), A18-49 (6.5/18) and A25-54 (6.5/16).  Miami won the opening game of the series by a score of 92-84 to lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.

Game 1 of the 2011 Finals was up solidly over the first game last year’s Lakers-Celtics matchup in viewers (+8% – 15.2 million vs. 14.1 million) and young adults (+14% – 6.5/18 vs. 5.7/18).  In addition, the 2011 opener surged by wide margins from the last time the Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks met in The Finals, jumping 32% in Total Viewers and 35% in Adults 18-49 over the opening game of 2006 (11.5 million and 4.8/15 on 6/8/06).   

In Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, Game 1 of the 2011 NBA Finals qualified as strongest start to the series in 7 years – since 2004 (Lakers-Pistons).  In addition, ABC marked its highest-ever Game 1 numbers with Adults 18-34 (6.8/21) and Men 18-34 (9.0/28) – since beginning carriage in 2003. 

Game 1 of the 2011 NBA Finals delivered a 31.9 Household rating in Miami and a 29.9 rating in Dallas.
