Pro-Radio Royalty Legislator Darrell Issa To Retire

0

If the radio broadcasting industry were to single out one Member of Congress that was the biggest thorn in its side, perhaps California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa would come to mind. Issa has been a key proponent of legislation backed by the Recording Academy, musicFIRST and other artists’ rights groups that would impose new royalty payments on AM and FM broadcasters.

Such legislation is likely dead on arrival, with a majority of Congressional Members signing on to a resolution that would put the kibosh on additional cash payments for radio station owners. Come January 2019, renewed efforts to get Radio to pay more won’t involve Issa—he’s ending his career in Washington.
