Democratic governors lodge complaint against Fox in Ohio

The Democratic Governors Association has filed a formal complaint with the Ohio Elections Commission charging Fox News Network with making an “apparently illegal” like-kind contribution to the campaign of Republican gubernatorial candidate John Kasich on 8/18/10.

From DGA, here is the gist of the complaint: “There is reason to believe that FOX News Network, L.L.C. violated Ohio election law on August 18, 2010 when John Kasich appeared on a network program, solicited contributions for his campaign and FOX added the graphics ‘John Kasich (R), KasichforOhio.com’ under Mr. Kasich’s image…The Republican Governors Association is actively engaged in working to elect John Kasich in Ohio. It appears that News America, Inc. and FOX News Network, L.L.C. are pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to support and elect Republican candidates.”

The appearance is said to have been on the “O’Reilly Factor,” and Kasich is said to have earned more than $21K in donations from the appearance.

DGA tied the Kasich incident to Fox parent News Corporation’s donation of $1M to its counterpart Republican Governors Association.
