Dial-Global re-launches live and local formats

Dial Global, the leading provider of 24-hour radio formats, has re-launched its nine ‘localized’ formats with veteran air personalities from powerhouse stations including WPLJ-FM NY, K-EARTH LA, KSCS and KVIL in Dallas.

This move comes as part of a thorough upgrade of the Dial Global Local brand of 24-hour formats.  In recent months, the company has updated technology, installed new imaging and formed a new programming team.  Now, the final piece is in place – a strong line-up of air personalities.   In total, Dial Global hired 38 full & part time personalities to broadcast from studios in LA, Dallas and Denver.

President of Programming Kirk Stirland tells RBR-TVBR they are more and more moving to being format-centric. “And then you get it however you want it—whether it be via DG Local (the old Waitt Radio Networks), the total way, which is a delivered turn-key solution, or a custom delivery, which we do for some stations.”

The nine localized formats include AC Active, AC Pure, Oldies Plus, Good Time Oldies, Country Today, Country Classics, Genuine Classic Rock, Jack and The Lounge.

What makes this special is the powerful combination of great air talent and Dial Global’s patented Storq technology, Stirland says. “Storq is their automation-based delivery method that allows our announcers for a certain number of the breaks every hour to completely localize it for the affiliates.”

With Storq, when a jock comes in, the first break he or she records is the ones for the whole network. Then he or she does all of the breaks for the specific station clients that want more localism. Storq delivers it to the appropriate stations—including just the standard network breaks or with the localized breaks.

“With this system, we can offer an amazing line-up of personalities who’ll deliver market-specific, local content to our affiliate stations,” he adds.

Beau Phillips, EVP Programming, has just returned from Denver after spending months recruiting, evaluating and hand-picking some of the radio personalities.  “Now our formats can compete in virtually any market.”
