Dial Global tops RADAR 118 rankers

ArbitronArbitron reports in its September 2013 RADAR Radio Network Ratings that nearly 180 million Persons 12+, or approximately 68% of this demographic, heard one or more network radio commercials in an average week of the survey period. In RADAR 118, there were 45 different measured media outlets available to national advertisers seeking to reach listeners through network radio. Dial Global and Cumulus topped first and second place for both A 25-54 and A 18-49 AQH rankers. For A 18-49, Premiere had a strong showing, coming both 3rd and 4th in the list.


RADAR reports estimated audiences to network commercials broadcast by affiliates of the subscribing networks.  RADAR audience estimates do not account for listening to all network radio programming.

The RADAR September 2013 survey period demonstrates network radio’s power in reaching a mass audience in all demographics.  Commercials aired on the 45 radio networks measure reached:

•           67.8% of Persons aged 12+ (178,640,000 Persons)

•           70.6% of Persons aged 18-49 (94,607,000 Persons)

•           71.3% of Persons aged 25-54 (89,200,000 Persons)

The RADAR September 2013 survey period also demonstrates network radio’s extensive reach in the Top 25 DMA’s (designated market areas).

•           70.4% of Persons aged 12+ (92,512,000 Persons)

•           73.6% of Persons aged 18-49 (50,560,000 Persons)

•           74.4% of Persons aged 25-54 (48,270,000 Persons)

United Stations Radio Networks noted that its USRN Impact Network established itself as a leading vehicle for advertisers looking to reach both 18-49 year olds and 25-54 year olds, has again gained on its competition.  USRN Impact finished in the following rank order based on each of the listed demographics among those 45 RADAR networks, based on daypart averages for Monday-Friday, 6am – 7pm (the Arbitron rankers are based on All Broadcasts: Mon-Sun 5A-12M):

Arbitron RADAR (Radio’s All Dimension Audience Research) September 2013 is the standard currency for national network radio ratings and measures 45 individual radio networks. These networks are operated by American Urban Radio Networks, Crystal Media Networks, Cumulus Media Networks, Premiere Radio Networks, United Stations Radio Networks and WestwoodOne.

The sample size for the RADAR September 2013 is 395,897 persons aged 12 and older. This sample is designed to provide stability for key demographic estimates, dayparts, and Market-by-Market Analysis reports, which report all individual DMAs. The RADAR September 2013 Report includes data from all 48 Arbitron PPM  markets. The survey period for RADAR 118 covers June 21, 2012 to June 19, 2013.
