Digital streams slow to register in PPM markets

0

Hundreds of online streams of AM and FM stations and HD2 (or 3) signals are being encoded for Arbitron to measure in PPM markets, but listenership is still pretty limited. The number of digital channels meeting minimum reporting standards fell for the March report.

RBR/TVBR has been following this tally. Apparently boosted by in-office listening to streaming Christmas music, the high water mark for digital channels meeting minimum reporting standards (0.5 Cume rating, Persons 6+) was when 14 made the cut in Arbitron’s December report.

Since then, the number fell to 11 in both the “Holiday” and January reports, but pushed back up to 13 in February. March, however, saw the number drop by one to a dozen digital channels meeting minimum PPM reporting standards, spread across nine PPM markets. All are online streams of AM or FM stations. To date, no HD2 channel has met the minimum reporting standard.
