Disney has scheduled an event 1/15 to unveil “Disney Infinity,” its new gaming initiative. Chief creative officer John Lasseter and co-president of Disney Interactive, John Pleasants are expected to present a multiplatform product that features “Pixar and Disney characters and a game world.”
Both Pixar and Disney universes will figure prominently in the multiplatform game. Disney’s recent buy of LucasFilm LTD. makes the possibilities for the gaming project even more compelling.
“Imagine a sprawling Skylanders-esque game featuring characters and environments from Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Toy Story, iconic fairy tale films, and the multitude of properties in their creative stable,” noted a Forbes article.
The game will reportedly be released for Nintendo‘s 3DS and Wii U, Sony‘s PlayStation 3, and Microsoft‘s Xbox 360. Releases for PC and Apple iOS are expected as well.
It’s also likely that Disney Infinity will utilize “plastic tokens” to facilitate communication between physical Pixar and Disney characters and a game world, much like the hugely successful Skylanders.
