Disney topped media companies in 2012

0

DisneyThe diversified interests of the Walt Disney Corporation brought home more than $42B last year, eclipsing the total amassed by #2 News Corporation by a wide margin, according to the scorekeepers at SNL Kagan. And when it comes to net revenue, the mouse amassed more than double that of #2 Time Warner.

TW was #3 on the total revenue chart, ahead of Omnicom, CBS and Viacom. And in case you’re wondering, if CBS and Viacom were still totaled together, the pair would leap far ahead of Omnicom but still would fall just short of the TW total.

Comcast/NBCU is not included on the SNL Kagan media chart – it shows up in the communications category. However, were it listed, its reported 2012 revenue of $15B and change (if you can call $42M change – hey, it’s just tip money to us!) would put it at #4 on the media chart.

Radio and outdoor giant Clear Channel appears at #19.

Here are the rankings by total revenue.

When it comes to net revenue, News Corp. slid all the way down to #8. Viacom and CBS combined earned enough to claim the #2 spot, but separately are #4 and #6 respectively.

And we note with interest the presence of two of the most aggressive television groups in the US: Nexstar is listed at #20 and Sinclair at #23. Clear Channel, however, falls off the chart.
