Dog gets a TV show and a blog

Talking dogs have been a mainstay of TV and movie family entertainment. The latest twist adds an Internet element as well. Disney Channel has ordered “Dog with a Blog.”

The live action comedy series comes from Emmy-winning producer Michael B. Kaplan. It’s a family sitcom from the pet’s point-of-view, centering on step-siblings whose parents buy them a dog to encourage them to get along. “That happens – to some extent – as brother and sister discover a big secret about their family’s latest addition… that the dog can talk AND blog,” said the network announcement.

The star of the new series is Kuma, a four year-old, Husky/Golden Retriever/Border Collie mix who was rescued from a shelter in the role of “Stan,” the talking and blogging dog. Several humans will also have roles.

Production on the multi-camera series will begin this June in Hollywood for premiere in fall 2012 on Disney Channel US and soon thereafter on Disney Channels around the world.
