Former Broadcast Industry Council Leader Don LeBrecht Dies

From 1982 until his retirement in 1999, Roger D. “Don” LeBrecht served as Executive Director of the Broadcast Industry Council, working with the NAB on various projects to improve American productivity and literacy.


This came following stints in the 1970s as Operations Manager of B/EZ WPAT-AM & FM in Paterson, N.J., which served the New York Tri-State Area, and as PD/Station Manager of B/EZ CHFI-FM 98.1 in Toronto.

LeBrecht passed away on Thursday (2/20) in the Sarasota suburb of Lakewood Ranch, Fla. He was 80.

LeBrecht’s radio resume includes stints at KHMS-FM in El Paso; KNDX-FM in Yakima, Wash.; KFRE-FM in Fresno; WSPA-FM in Spartanburg, S.C.; and WBT-FM in Charlotte.

It was there that he met his future wife, Thelma; and they would have shared their 50th wedding anniversary in May 2018.

Later career stops include WDVR in Philadelphia and with the former EZ Communications in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by Thelma.

Services will be held at 11am on March 8 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, Fla. 34241.

Funeral arrangements are by National Cremation & Burial Society Sarasota.
