Long-time Pittsburgh radio personality “Uncle Dougie” Doug Hoerth was found dead in his apartment on Tuesday (1/25). He was 66.

WTAE-TV reported that Hoerth had worked for six different radio stations in the Pittsburgh market, including the former WTAE-AM, from 1980 through 2007, the last being Talk WPTT-AM (now Business Talk WMNY).

According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, former radio colleague Phil Lenz contacted authorities when he couldn’t reach Hoerth for about a week. Bellevue, PA police found his body and the Allegheny County Medical Examiner ruled that his death was from natural causes.

Friend Bill Zimpleman told the newspaper that Hoerth had become a recluse and lost a lot of weight after his radio career ended.

Hoerth had no surviving family, but friends are thinking of putting together some sort of memorial gathering.
