Dr. Demento retreats to the internet

Famed radio oddball Dr. Demento, aka Barrett Hansen, has finally withdrawn from the airwaves after some 40 years of broadcasting novelties, rarities, humorous pieces and other audio detritus. He has not stopped performing his vital service to fans, however – he can be found on the internet at drdemento.com, where a fresh weekly program is posted Saturdays.

He is noted for unleashing songs like “Fishheads” and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” on an unsuspecting American public, and did much to promote the careers of Frank Zappa, Danny Elfman, Weird Al Yankovic and others.

According to a report from AOL News, his roster of Dr. Demento affiliates had dwindled to single digits.
