DTV plans divulged

158 stations told the FCC they’d like to cut off analog service prior to the new 6/12/09 hard DTV deadline, joining 641 that have already done so, and leaving 927 stations running side-by-side analog and digital signals to the end. The FCC still has to approve the plans of the early bird wannabes.

RBR/TVBR observation: If we understand the protocols correctly, the FCC will mainly be checking to make sure at least on major network affiliate with a strong local news presence will remain available in analog in each market. Those making an early exit will have to get to work education their viewers ASAP.
