Eddie Edwards used to run a television station in the Steel City. Now he’s breaking into radio in the wake of WAMO’s departure, to bring Urban radio back to life in the city. He says he has a deal to acquire WPYT-AM.

The station is owned by Langer Broadcasting Outdoors Inc. The price of the station was not announced.

WPYT occupies 660 kHz on the AM dial, pumping out 1.4 kw from sunrise to sunset.

Edwards said he’ll be putting a News-Talk format aimed at the African American community on the station, with some music and religious programming on Sundays.

He also promised to find an FM station to serve the same community ASAP.
