Backyard Broadcasting has decided to part with WURK-FM Elwood IN, and once again, Educational Media Foundation is willing to step up to the table and make an offer.

The buyer, headed by Mike Novak, is the operator of the K-LOVE Contemporary Christian Network. It’s based in California and has been buying mass quantities of stations during the past few years.

According to broker John Pierce, who represented EMF, the price is $750K. $500K of that will be paid pursuant to a promissory note.

The acquisition moves another commercial band station into the non-profit world. WURK-FM is a full-bore Class A, with 6 kw and a 328’ HAAT antenna. Pierce says it serves the unrated Muncie/Anderson area.

Backyard’s Barry Drake commented, “Since improving the signal and broadening the coverage area of simulcast sister WERK, Backyard Broadcasting has been exploring options for the future of WURK. We are pleased to see this station go to the respected quality broadcasters of EMF.”
