Eminem and Jay Z up on the roof

Monday evening proved much more than manic as guests of the New York Ameritania Hotel got the chance to catch a surprise performance of top recording artists Jay Z and Eminem during a taping for the “Late Show with David Letterman” on CBS.

The early evening performance took place upon the rooftop of the Ameritania Hote,l which is located at 230 West 54th Street in Manhattan. The hotel shares a common roof with the famous Ed Sullivan Theater, home of the Letterman show, and seemed the perfect solution to Jay Z’s recent “Empire State of Mind” claim to being able to make it anywhere.

The performance was meant to be unannounced, but as with any New York minute, word spread quickly.

Manhattan-based hotelier Hank Freid, owner of the Ameritania Hotel, along with several other boutique hotels, threw an intimate party from the property rooftop to share in the entertainment and excitement.

“It was the experience of a lifetime,” said one guest. “Jay Z and Eminem performing live on top of the greatest city in the world!”

The scene was a mix of who’s who in the Manhattan society scene and the entertainment fields, with such guests as Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, Ashlee Dupre (we wonder if she’ll be a guest on Eliot Spitzer’s new CNN show?) and, of course, Letterman himself.

The performance is scheduled to air this Friday, June 25th, on Letterman’s show.
