New York Festivals (NYF) 2010 Radio Programming & Promotion Awards announced its call for entries this week. Also, some new categories have been added.

Entries will be accepted for the first time for Best Student Artist Performance/Interview, Best Student Comedy, and Podcast for the Arts. “Podcast for the Arts gives us the opportunity to recognize the innovative work done by cultural institutions around the world,” said Rose Anderson, the competition’s director.

NYF said it adapts its categories to the ever-changing broadcast industry as it evolves with technology and the demands of the consumer. Categories include: News Programs, News Inserts, Information/Documentary, Entertainment, Talk Programs and On-air Talent. Additional categories include: Craft & Technique, Programming Format, Promotion Spots, IDs, Audio Podcasts, and Student categories.

Award winners for 2009 included Bloomberg, Bioneers, Radio Free Asia, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Sirius XM Radio, BBC, DWR, CBC, George Washington University, Radio Netherlands, Radio New Zealand, WNYC Public Radio, WFMT, and The New York Philharmonic.

Entries are judged based on their production values, organization, presentation of information, creativity, and use of the medium. Each jury member listens to and scores entries via the NYF online judging website. The 2010 jury and advisory board will be announced soon.

The deadline for entries is March 31, 2010. Information on how to enter is at the NYF website.
