Six to enter National Radio Hall of Fame

Six national and local radio celebrities representing politics, sports, humor and classic comedy will be inducted into the National Radio Hall of Fame during a nationally broadcast ceremony Saturday, November 5th. The 2005 inductees are the legendary comedy team of Abbott & Costello (the late Bud Abbott and the late Lou Costello); Marty Brennaman, Cincinnati Reds broadcaster; Ann Compton, ABC News Radio White House correspondent; Myron Cope, Pittsburgh Steelers color commentator; and the late Jean Shepherd, radio humorist.

"The National Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2005 personifies radio's unique ability to inform, engage, entertain, and delight generations of audiences over diverse programming formats. We're pleased to welcome this year's inductees. Each has made a significant contribution to the medium of radio, and their names will be enshrined for future generations to acknowledge, both in the new Museum of Broadcast Communications and online," said Bruce DuMont, President of the National Radio Hall of Fame and the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago.

BMW to offer HD Radios as option

BMW will be the first automaker to include HD Radio as a factory installed option in its 7 Series model this fall. The 2006 7 Series was introduced earlier in the spring. HD Radio is being added as a new feature. The receiver will be trunk-mounted and be included in a display screen that sits in the dash. The driver uses a controller to control the display, which includes AM, FM, CD and a navigation system. The list price for the HD Radio option is 500 bucks.

Radiosophy launches broadcast partner program

Radiosophy, manufacturer of the MultiStream HD receiver, officially launched its Broadcast Partner Program designed to help radio stations promote HD Radio technology by getting affordable receivers into the hands of their listeners. Broadcasters across the country are already signing up to take advantage of the benefits the program offers.

Radiosophy Broadcast Partners will receive 37% (roughly $100) on each MultiStream HD sale referral. Of that, 15% comes in the form of a referral commission while the remaining 22% will be placed into a partner-specific Market Development Fund. Broadcast Partners will also receive discounted pricing on promotional units.

Stations may alternately choose to become a Broadcast Affiliate. Broadcast Affiliates simply place a Radiosophy banner on their website and/or refer listeners to the Radiosophy order line and receive 15% ($40.35) for each MultiStream HD receiver referred for sale by their station.

Broadcast Partners and Broadcast Affiliates will have access to secure online reports to track commissions, payment history, banner statistics and more. Also available are easily customizable collateral materials, in electronic format, which stations can use on web sites and for marketing efforts.

ABC affiliates switching to Fox News are losing Paul Harvey

FYI: a Clear Channel station in Iowa, WHO-AM, that switched from ABC News Radio to Fox News contacted us mentioning they also lost Paul Harvey after making the switch. The new Paul Harvey and ABC News Radio affiliate in Des Moines is Citadel's Talk KWQW-FM. An ABC Radio Networks spokesperson told us any News affiliate who switches will likely lose Paul Harvey News and Commentary as well. Why? "ABC News Radio and Paul Harvey are generally packaged together and affiliated together. So when you cancel one, you cancel both."
