It was a nine-digit week, the first since the middle of April, and you have to go all the way back to 2/7-11/05 to find a higher bottom line than that filed with the FCC at summer's midpoint. But just about all of the value came from only two deals, a double-FM spin-off in San Jose and a marginal TV deal in Nashville. Otherwise, it was verrrrrry quiet. But we have it on good authority that things in this little weekly department are going to heat up soon.

Sinclair hopes failure leads to triple play
Sinclair Communications is willing to pay 24.37M for WB WNAB-TV Nashville, even though it's said to be bleeding cash for owner Nashville License Holdings. It's hoping the FCC will grant a failing station waiver to allow it to combine with the local Fox and UPN affiliates.

NextMedia finds the way to San Jose
Viacom had to get rid of some inventory - - in this case, not a couple of stations' avails, but the stations themselves, thanks to certain other acquisitions. That's how NextMedia was able to come by KEZR-FM & KBAY-FM San Jose CA for 80M.
