ABC to launch Hispanic net via SBS shows
ABC Radio Networks will launch RADAR-rated The Hispanic Advantage Network this fall, made up of inventory from ABC's deal last year with Spanish Broadcasting System to syndicate the group's morning shows hosted by Renan Almendarez Coello and Luis Jimenez. Also included in the new net will be inventory from ESPN Deportes and ABC Radio Network's Hispanic Major League Baseball coverage.
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino pacts with CC Entertainment
Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino co- Chairman Robert Earl and CC Entertainment CEO Brian Becker announced a partnership that will provide top quality entertainment for the Las Vegas market. The collaboration will include the modernization of the renowned Aladdin Theatre for the Performing Arts and the development of a cutting edge showroom. Under the terms of the agreement CC Entertainment will be responsible for developing, programming and operating both venues.

The partnership will provide the ultimate entertainment experience, featuring top- name talent and productions at the property venues. Performance venue construction will occur in unison with the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino renovations scheduled for completion in the second half of 2006. With a new facade, improved entryways, enhanced dining experience and new state-of-the-art entertainment venues, the future home of Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino will offer visitors and residents alike a real taste of Hollywood.
Mike & Mike double ratings in NYC, Chicago
According to the latest Arbitrons, ESPN Radio's Mike and Mike in the Morning's New York and Chicago ratings have doubled in the past year. In men 25-54, New York ratings shot up from 0.8 in Fall 2003 to 1.6 in Fall 2004. In Chicago, the same demo increased from 2.6 in Fall 2003 to 5.3 in Fall 2004.
"Despite Golic, the show seems to be developing a following," co-host Mike Greenberg tells RBR. "The show has been a learning experience for me about not judging a book by its cover; we appear to be the two most different people in the world, but underneath we are so much alike. We enjoy working together and I think our listeners can sense that."
RAB and BMI team for FastStart minority scholarship program
For the fourth year in a row, BMI is sponsoring the FastStart To Radio Success Minority Scholarship Program, providing full tuition for 25 minority students to the RAB's Radio Training Academy in Dallas, or to the Academy's growing Off-Campus Extension Programs. Recipients are selected by the FastStart Scholarship Committee, which is comprised of Radio industry professionals who base their decision on various criteria including ethnicity, overall need, enthusiasm toward a career in Radio sales, and recommendations from the applicant's professional associates.
Applications may be submitted online at www.rab.com. The application deadline is 4/30 and recipients will be announced at the end of May. A special acknowledgement of BMI and a recent Scholarship recipient who has completed the Academy's program, will be conducted at the Saturday luncheon 2/12 during RAB2005 in Atlanta.
