Senate Commerce adds four new members
Each party is adding a pair of new members to the Senate Commerce Committee. On the Democratic side, however, the new duo is replacing a trio of former members, leaving the Republicans with a 12-10 advantage - - it had been 12-11 in the last Congress. On the other hand, maybe not much has changed - - campaigning John Kerry (D-MA) was rarely in attendance during the 108th Congress - - we don't cover everything the Committee does by any means, but we never saw him there even once.
New on the Republican side are Jim DeMint (R-SC) and David Vitter (R-LA). They replace the retired Peter G. Fitzgerald (R-IL) and Sam Brownback (R-KS), who has left for other assignments.
Ted Stevens is the new chair, and is joined by returning members John McCain (R-AZ), Conrad Burns (R-MT), Trent Lott (R-MS), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), Olympia Snowe (R-ME), Gordon Smith (R-OR), John Ensign (R-NV), George Allen (R-VA) and John Sununu (R-NH).
New members for the Dems include Benjamin Nelson (D-NE) and Mark Pryor (D-AR). They replace the retired Ernest Hollings (D-SC) and John Breaux (D-LA), and the reassigned Ron Wyden (D-OR).
Daniel Inouye (D-HI) takes over from Hollings as Ranking Member, and is joined by returning members John Rockefeller (D-WV), John Kerry (D-MA), Byron Dorgan (D-ND), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Maria Cantwell (D-WA) and Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ).
