Newberry to chair RAB2006
Commonwealth Broadcasting Corporation President & CEO Steve Newberry has been named Chairperson of RAB2006, to be held at the Hyatt Regency in New Orleans February 9-12 of next year. Newberry's company owns radio stations throughout Kentucky and in addition to his work at the RAB he serves as a member of the NAB Radio Board and is chair of its Small Market Definition Task Force.

Well, we have our answer to the "Radio Free Ohio" riddle (5/31 RBR #106). After that extended fake interference in which a purported pirate broke into CC Radio's WKDD-FM Akron programming, the end result was a flip of the cluster's Sports WTOU-AM to Progressive Talk. Imaginative, though.
RTNDA terrorism workshop hits Denver
"News and Terrorism: Communicatins in a Crisis," the RTNDA workshop on news issues in the event of a 9/11-style incident, will convene in Denver at the Warwick Hotel on Thursday, 6/2/05 from 9AM-2PM. Produced in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security and the National Academies, the sessions provide scientific information, safety tips, and planning guidance, as well as what works and what doesn't when trying to communicate during an emergency. It also includes a simulation tailored to the city hosting the event. The workshop then moves to Boston 7/7/05 and San Francisco 8/4/05.
NYSB offering 10 grand for pro-radio spots
The New York State Broadcasters have had enough with satellite radio's overwhelming publicity and they're fighting back. The State Association, which represents more than 400 radio stations in the Empire State, is offering a 10,000 prize for the best spots promoting free over-the-air radio vs. satellite radio. The spots will then be distributed to all stations in the state to air. The winner will be announced at NYSBA's 44th Executive Conference on June 26th at the Sagamore Resort Hotel on Lake George. Whitney Radio's WVOX and WRTN Westchester, NY have already been running their own anti-satellite radio campaign and have submitted their spots for the state-wide judging.
