Two stations adding HD multicasts
Capitol Broadcasting's WRAL-FM Raleigh and Infinity's WJMK-FM Chicago have both announced HD Radio side channels. WRAL's is a music-based radio station featuring nationally known artists such as Jack Johnson, Lenny Kravitz and the Pat McGee Band. The new station would also feature local artists such as Tift Merritt and Vaughan Penn.
WJMK's features "The Greatest Hits Of The 60's and 70's" complete with personalities including Dick Biondi, Fred Winston, Greg Brown, and Paul Perry. WJMK HD-2 will be programmed independently of WJMK, also known as JACK FM, and is expected to launch this month.
ABC News Radio details Live 8 coverage
ABC News Radio will provide coverage of the first ever Live 8 Concerts in London and Philadelphia on 7/2. Hourly status reports will begin at 20 minutes past the hour from 8:20 AM (ET) through 9:20 PM (ET).
ABC News Radio Correspondents Larry Jacobs, Aaron Katersky and David Blaustein will cover the events in Philadelphia, while Correspondents Linda Albin and Tom Rivers will report from London.
Live 8 is the kick-off event of "The Long Walk to Justice" - a movement aimed at pressuring leaders of the world's richest nations comprising the G-8 - to cancel Africa's debts and double the amount of aid dedicated to fighting poverty on the continent. In its first year, the Live 8 Concerts will be held in Philadelphia, London, Paris, Berlin, Rome, Barrie, Tokyo, Johannesburg, and Moscow.
Performers expected to participate are Bon Jovi, Destiny's Child, the Dave Matthews Band, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, and Jay-Z in Philadelphia; and Elton John, Coldplay, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Paul McCartney, Pink Floyd, U2, and Sting in London.
Demand high for rooms in Cheesesteak-land
It looks good for attendance at this year's NAB Radio Show in Philadelphia, September 21-23. NAB reports that housing reservations are currently tracking 23% over last year's San Diego show levels and 20% above the 2003 Philadelphia show levels.
