Oink Ink Radio's "Dead Radio Contest" winner named

Oink Ink Radio, a national radio ad agency with offices in NYC and LA, announced Greg Christiansen's "Testing" for Miller Brewing Company is the Gold Award winner of its seventh annual "Dead Radio Contest." Hailing from Young & Rubicam's Chicago office, Christiansen's script was selected from more than 1,000 entries nationwide. "Testing," which was rejected by the client, is a :60 spot introducing the convenience of the Miller Fridge Pack. By winning the contest, Christiansen also won a trip for two to Oink Ink Studios in New York City, where he supervised the production of his spot. Oink Ink Radio produced the "resuscitated" script free of charge.

Oink Ink Radio's annual "Dead Radio Contest" invites copywriters across America to submit their best radio scripts that suffered heart-wrenching deaths on clients' conference room tables.

"We love to recognize frustrated copywriters who have a drawer or computer full of clever and humorous radio scripts that face the hazard of rejection," said Oink Ink President Dan Price. "We get entries from all over the country, and the judges have a fun time reading through them. In many cases, clients have been known to reconsider their rejections and air the resurrected spots."

Written for Miller Brewing Company, the 60-second "Testing" spot begins:

AVO: With the introduction of the Miller Fridge Pack, we've made it easier for the average adult to get a beer from their refrigerator. But is the Miller fridge pack convenient for everyone? To find out, we tested it on people whose right leg had fallen asleep.

GUY: Aah...Ooh...Aah.

SFX: Footstep, slide of foot across floor, footstep, slide. The crack of a beer can opening.

AVO: We tested people who were duct taped to folding metal chairs.

SFX: Chair clanking across the floor. Then a can of beer opening.

AVO: People whose hair had caught on fire.

SFX: Crackling flames. Hurried footsteps. Beer opening.

AVO: Mafia informants with cement-encased feet.

SFX: Concrete dragging across the floor. Beer opening.

AVO: Peg-legged tug boat captain.

SFX: Footsteps and clopping wood. Beer opening.

AVO: The undead.

SFX: Hissing & gurgling. Beer opening.

AVO: Prison chain gangs.

SFX: Shuffling feet, chains, and multiple beers opening.

AVO: We even tested the Miller Fridge Pack on people who were being attacked by angry monkeys.

SFX: Monkeys screeching. Beer opening.

AVO: Yes, conclusive evidence shows that no matter who you are, the Miller Fridge Pack is the easiest way to keep 12 cans of your favorite Miller beer right at your fingertips. Even if you're trapped in an aquarium.

SFX: Bubbles and knocking on glass. The crack of a can of beer opening.

AVO: Miller. Good call.

AVO2: Miller Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Ron Henderson of The Richards Group in Dallas, TX won the contest's Silver Award for "Ass" (Client: Wantads.com). Karen McKinley of McKee Wallwork Henderson of Albuquerque, NM won the contest's Bronze Award for "Castration" (Client: Western Warehouse). The last two years the winning spot was loved so much by the original client...they aired them. Last year's Gold Award winner, "Babysitter," written by Adam Greenhood of Rick Johnson and Company, Albuquerque, NM for Rainbow Foods, was a Mercury 100,000 Radio Award Finalist.
