Infinity presents "Infinity Registers America: Your Voice Counts"

Infinity Broadcasting announced that on 9/14 all of its 185 radio stations across the country will participate in "Infinity Registers America: Your Voice Counts," a one day event designed to encourage citizens to register for the upcoming presidential election.

"As a local medium with enormous reach, radio is among the most effective means of inspiring millions of Americans on a daily basis," said Joel Hollander, Infinity President. "We're proud to use our airwaves for this great cause."

So on 9/14, listeners will be directed to their favorite Infinity station website through local public service announcements where they will find detailed information on the registration process, including forms, deadlines and submission instructions. In addition stations will develop and host their own local registration events with support from hometown celebrities, on-air talent, street teams, volunteers and local businesses.

Tony Penny wins WMAL's "Who Wants to be a Talk Show Host"

Thomas "Tony" Penny of Ellicott City, Md., is the winner of WMAL-AM DC's radio reality show, "Who Wants to be a Talk Show Host" and his first show will air this Sunday, 9/5 at 12:00pm. Penny is the Manager of Intern & Client Relations for INROADS/Greater Washington, providing career and academic coaching and advising to minority college students. His first assignment for WMAL will be hosting the 12:00pm-1:00pm slot on Sundays in September.

XM debuting public radio channel, second NASCAR channel

XM Satellite Radio has signed Bob Edwards, the award-winning public radio newsman, to host a new morning interview program, "The Bob Edwards Show," exclusively on XM as part of its new public radio channel.

XM will debut the new channel (Channel 133) today with programs from Public Radio International (PRI) and its station partners Chicago Public Radio and WGBH Boston; American Public Media, the national production and distribution branch of Minnesota Public Radio; and Boston public radio station WBUR.

XM is also launching a second channel for NASCAR. "NASCAR Radio 2" brings in-car audio from FanScan, as a compliment to full race broadcast coverage from MRN and PRN on NASCAR Radio, Channel 144. 'NASCAR Radio 2' will cover events in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, NASCAR Busch Series, and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. 'NASCAR Radio 2' on XM Satellite Radio debuts Sat., Sept. 4, 2004, with in-car coverage of the NASCAR Busch Series Target House 300 from California Speedway.

ABC News Radio to cover anniversary of 9/11

ABC News Radio announced it will provide affiliates with extensive coverage of the third anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The network, which will have correspondents at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA, will provide the following:

* Beginning at 8:30 am ET on 9/11, ABC will provide live correspondent coverage of memorial activities at Ground Zero, the Pentagon, and Shanksville, PA. The coverage will last 45 minutes.

* Live unanchored audio from the Ground Zero ceremony. Similar coverage will be available for any event taking place at the Pentagon.

* A special newscall will offer archival material from September 11, 2001.

* ABC News correspondent Gil Gross will host a one-hour special marking the anniversary. The broadcast will examine the war on terrorism and where things stand after three years and feature interviews with leading politicians, newsmakers and family members.
