Infinity CEO Hollander to star at Advertising Week

Infinity CEO Joel Hollander will be the first speaker in the five-part Panasonic Ideas for Life Keynote Lecture Series on 9/26 at 3:00PM during Advertising Week 2005. Interviewed by Fox News anchor and Westwood One talker Bill O'Reilly at the Museum of Television and Radio in New York City, Hollander will discuss a wide range of topics that are relevant to today's radio business. "I am thrilled that I have been asked to address the advertising community at one of the industry's premier events," said Hollander. "There are a number of fresh and exciting programming ideas and technological advances taking place in the world of radio and Advertising Week 2005 is the perfect platform to showcase them."

WWL-AM back on full power

Through a huge effort by Entergy, the local New Orleans power company, Entercom VP Engineering Marty Hadfield tells us as of about 1:20 PM CT Sunday, WWL-AM returned to full 50 kW transmitter power on commercial electrical service. All of the hurricane tossed utility poles along the site access roadway to the WWL transmitter site have been replaced and new cross-arms & wires were strung.

DOD contracts for radio/TV survey of the troops

The US Department of Defense has contracted The Lund Consultants Inc. and Lund Media Research to conduct a Worldwide Radio Analysis of American Forces Radio and Television operations in the United States and around the world. The goal is to provide the more than 900,000 members of the American Forces community with their preferred music, sports, talk and news programming while developing more efficient broadcast operations. American Forces Network and AFRTS have hundreds of affiliated stations in numerous locations serving the US military audience overseas.

Minnesota stations raised over 867K

The Minnesota Broadcasters Association reports that stations raised 867,596 on Friday for the Red Cross relief effort for victims of Hurricane Katrina. 19 Minneapolis-St. Paul stations had personalities broadcasting live from a single location in the Twin Cities. Many other stations throughout the state joined in via a feed by the Minnesota News Network.

160K raised in Des Moines

Saga's Des Moines Radio Group, which had teamed up with Dahl's Foods, Mercy Medical Center, Mediacom and Iowa State Bank, raised 160,000 bucks for hurricane relief. Mercy employees alone donated over 53,000.

Joyner aiding displaced students

Syndicated radio and TV personality Tom Joyner has launched The Tom Joyner Foundation HBCU Scholarship Relief Fund to assist students at three Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) whose campuses have been shut down due to Hurricane Katrina's devastation. "We know this is a difficult time for everybody," said Joyner. "This fund is designed to try to make sure all those students that transferred out of schools in New Orleans - - and there are some 9,000 of them - - can stay in school because that's what we're focused on here at the Foundation." Joyner has set aside up to $1 million to help students who have been displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The fund will assist students from Dilliard, Xavier and Southern University of New Orleans and will be distributed to the schools to which the students have transferred. To be eligible for the money, students must submit their full name, the school from which they transferred, the school they are currently attending and a telephone number (cell or land line) or email address to [email protected].
