Air America asking for listener donations
Recently, thanks to NY AG Eliot Spitzer, Air America Radio had to repay 875,000 dollars to the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, which helped to fund the network. Possibly because of that, Air America on 9/21 launched a loyalty program that includes asking for donations from listeners. According to Air America's website, listeners become an "Air America Associate" by making a cash donation to the network. "We know we can't achieve this next stage of growth without significant help from you, our loyal listeners," said the network in an email to supporters. For $50, listeners get three AAR bumper stickers, "I'm building Air America Radio." For $100, listeners get the bumper stickers and a tote bag. For $250, listeners also get a personal mention of thanks on website and on air.
Premiere syndicates Big D and Bubba
Premiere Radio Networks is adding The Big D and Bubba Show to its roster of syndicated programs on 10/3. The show airs Monday through Friday, from 6-10 a.m. ET on 23 country radio stations. The family-oriented show was originally made popular by their homespun local approach and "candid phone calls." Also making the move to Premiere Radio is the show's long time executive producer, Patrick Thomas. In 1999, Big D and Bubba met in Baton Rouge at WXCT-FM. The new team then switched to cross-town rival WYNK-FM. They have self-syndicated their show since then. Two years later, they decided to move to Nashville to launch on WSIX-FM.
Clarification: Crystal Net not doing special tab
In our RADAR 86 story yesterday, we incorrectly noted that Crystal Media Networks' Crystal Net was doing a special tab because new affiliations only received partial credit in the RADAR 86 Standard Report. Not true, says Nick Krawczyk, President & CEO Crystal Media Network: "We are not doing a special tab. In fact, our number came out exactly as we predicted (1.3 RA2554, with a 53% female skew, and over 230 index in the Top 10)."
