ESPN Middle Georgia Gets Shanked

At 1150 kHz near the city of Macon, Georgia, is a Sports Talker that uses three FM translators to serve “Middle Georgia” as an ESPN Radio affiliate.

Its owner just punted the stations to a new owner. According to an asset purchase agreement filed Friday (1/4) with the FCC, WXKO LLC is selling WXKO-AM in Fort Valley, Ga., and its three translators: W284DE, W290BD and W226BZ.

The buyer is Shanks Broadcasting, and it is purchasing the facilities for $250,000.

A 10% deposit has been made to the seller by Shanks.

The buyer is led by Bill Shanks, and this deal comes concurrent to a separately filed transaction that sees his company acquire WCEH-AM and W241CO in Hawkinsville, WCEH-FM in Pinehurst, WDXQ-AM and W244CL in Cochran, and WWKM-FM in Rochelle, Ga., from Central Georgia Radio LLC for $250,000 — making the total price Shanks is paying to expand his operation a half-million dollars.
