Estrella TV enters Oklahoma

Liberman Broadcasting’s (LBI Media) has added a 34th market and a new state, Oklahoma, with its latest affiliate deal for the Estrella TV network. And while Tulsa is only the 68th largest US Hispanic market, KXAP-LP lays claim to being the only Spanish TV station in town. That claim, however, quickly brought an objection from KUTU-CA General Manager Ty Tyler, who told RBR-TVBR that his station has been the Univision affiliate in Tulsa since March 2005.

In fact, KXAP, owned by TeleTul, has its transmitter right in the heart of Tulsa and puts its Channel 51 signal over the entire city. The station had been a Spanish independent.

“As the only local Spanish-language television station in Tulsa, we look forward to airing Estrella TV’s programming and offering our audience fresh content,” said Antonio Perez, President of Teletul. “We are excited by this partnership and are confident that the network will contribute to KXAP’s growing success with audiences and advertisers,” he added.

KXAP also gets a national rep in the deal. As with all Estrella TV affiliation agreements, KXAP’s sales team will have the full backing of LBI Media’s wholly owned national sales organization, Spanish Media Rep Team (SMRT).

As the 68th largest U.S. Hispanic TV market, the Tulsa DMA is estimated to have 24,080 Hispanic TV households. The affiliate deal increases Estrella TV’s affiliate count to 26, with affiliates and O&Os now in 34 markets nationwide.

“The Tulsa DMA addition to Estrella TV’s footprint reaffirms our commitment to positioning the network as a highly competitive player contending with established Hispanic networks. We expect our unique approach to Spanish-language content, production capabilities and renowned talent to continue to propel the Estrella TV brand on a national level,” said LBI CEO Lenard Liberman.
