Exhausted Drake double-deals in Jackson

They say three’s a crowd, but sometimes you want a crowd. Since Barry Drake’s Backyard Broadcasting hasn’t been able to get more than two FMs in Jackson MS, it has instead cut deals with two separate buyers to exit the market and concentrate on its efforts elsewhere. According to brokerage firm Kalil & Co., which handled arrangements for both deals, WRXW-FM is heading to Pierre Sutton’s Inner City Media Corporation; and WWJK-FM is going to New South Radio, headed by Clay and Bob Holladay. Drake commented, “After exhausting all possibilities of building a cluster in Jackson, we feel it best for our employees, listerers and advertisers to…” sell to successful local operators. Both buyers have numerous stations in the market.
