Falwell liberates Clifton Forge CP

Liberty University, part of the Lynchburg VA empire built by Jerry Falwell and carried forward by his son, is getting a CP to be built in the unrated territory to the north of the institution’s headquarters. But there’s a surprise built into this one.

Perhaps the most remarkable aspect of the deal is the set of call letters awarded to the CP’s seller, Ron Elmore Ministries. Despite being considerably east of the Mississippi River, the traditional W-K dividing line, the FM-to-be is in the FCC database as KCFF.

Other than that, it’s a pretty routine piece of FCC transactional business. Jerry Falwell Jr.s’ Liberty U. will put down $5K and pay the rest of the $45K total purchase price at closing.

The CP is for a Class B1 on 90.9 MHz with 17.5 kw and – it’s obviously tucked into a valley or hollow – a stick that will be measured at -410’ in HAAT.

Liberty has two FMs and a Class A television station in Lynchburg and another FM CP pegged for Amelia Court House VA, in unrated territory to the east of Lynchburg.
