FCC agenda: All internet, all the time again

0

The FCC October Open Meeting is on the schedule for Thursday, 10/22/09, kicking off at 10PM. And once again, with a major plan on national broadband policy due 2/17/10, the FCC is committing all of the meeting to internet issues. The title of this session is “Preserving the Open Internet; Broadband Industry Practices (WC Docket No. 07-52).”

This is the file folder in which network neutrality would be found. Chairman Julius Genachowski has already come out in favor of some sort of network neutrality scheme and presumably has the support of his two Democratic colleagues, Michael Copps and Mignon Cliburn.

The two Republicans, Robert McDowell and Meredith Baker, have indicated their belief that network neutrality is a train that has left the station in advance of any open discussion and are likely to oppose any such schemes.

RBR-TVBR observation: To paraphrase Mister Rogers, “Can you say controversial?”
