The FCC approved 11/13 WGBH-FM Boston’s $14M purchase of all-Classical WCRB-FM (99.5) from Nassau Broadcasting Partners (licensed to Waltham, MA). The plan is to turn WGBH-FM into an All News outlet. WGBH already uses NPR in between the fine arts programming, one of three stations in the Boston market to do so. WGBH plans to finance the sale by launching a capital campaign donation drive called Keeping Classical Alive, according to The Boston Globe.

WCRB, one of the country’s few remaining 24-hour commercial classical music radio stations, ranks 16th overall in the Boston market.
