FCC extends open internet comment period

This one will come in the zero-surprise category. In the matter of Preserving the Open Internet, Broadband Industry Practices, reply comments were due 4/8/10. The ruling of the Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit was handed down 4/6/10. Several interested parties have asked for and received more time.

The Wireless Association, the United States Telecom Association, and the Open Internet Coalition all petitioned the FCC to extend the comment period in light of the Court ruling.

The FCC reminded that it does not take such extensions lightly, but said in this case it found good cause and moved the deadline back to 4/26/10. It also noted that it will be holding a workshop on the topic in Seattle WA on 4/28/10.

RBR-TVBR observation: If interested parties didn’t ask for an extension, you’d have to think the FCC would have petitioned itself for more time in the wake of this particular court ruling.
