FCCPublic comments dates have been established for the FCC’s rulemaking to revise Wireless Emergency Alert rules.

WEAs are alerts on smartphones and other mobile devices; they pertain to broadcasters because they often refer citizens to the local television and radio stations for more specific information before, during and after a crisis.

The anticipated changes from the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau would clarify WEA messages, ensure they reach their target audience and establish a testing program to improve their effectiveness.

Comments to PS Docket 15-91 are due Jan. 13 and replies on Feb. 12.
