FCC meeting agenda confirms sneak preview: No broadcast items

Following the precedent put in place by former FCC Chairman Kevin Martin to offer transparency into agency actions, a sneak preview of the agenda for the August 5, 2010 Open Meeting was issued a couple of weeks ago. Now the official agenda is out and it confirms our earlier report: the session will be a snoozer for broadcasters.

The August session follows tradition in that it’s scheduled early in the month, opening up the remainder of August to those who follow the lead of Congress and get out of town for awhile.

Both agenda planks deal with wireless telecommunications issues.

The first: “Amendment of the Commission’s Rules Governing Hearing Aid-Compatible Mobile Handsets”
The second: “Amendment of Part 101 of the Commission’s Rules to Facilitate the Use of Microwave for Wireless Backhaul and Other Uses and to Provide Additional Flexibility to Broadcast Auxiliary Service and Operational Fixed Microwave Licensees,” among other things.

There is absolutely no reason for a broadcaster to delay vacation plans or alter their daily schedule in order to catch this meeting.
