FCC ‘Modernizes’ MVPD Retrans Yank Notice Rules

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The FCC has approved a Report and Order that brings changes to the Commission’s rules concerning notices that cable operators must provide to subscribers and local franchise authorities (LFAs) about service and rate changes.

These changes, the Pai Commission, declared, “will make consumer notices more meaningful and accurate, reduce consumer confusion, better ensure that subscribers receive the information they need to make informed choices about their service options, and reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens.”

In short, it’s all about testy retransmission consent negotiations and the law-abiding yanking of a TV station’s signal in the absence of an agreement.
