FCC Chairman Ajit Pai has looked under a Black Rock to find his Press Secretary at the Commission.

Tina Pelkey, a Senior Vice President at Black Rock Group, will now serve as the voice of Pai to the public. She reports to the director of the FCC’s Office of Media Relations.

“Tina brings to the job a wealth of media relations experience, a tremendous work ethic, and a lot of energy,” said Chairman Pai.  “I look forward to working with Tina as a key part of our team. And, it goes without saying that it’s nice having another Kansan at the Commission.”

At Black Rock Group, she focused on strategic communications and public affairs. Before that, Pelkey was based in the capital of the European Union — Brussels, Belgium — for PR giant Weber Shandwick.

Earlier stints include roles as an AE at DCI Group and as National Press Secretary for Texas Senator John Cornyn.

Pelkey is a native of Lenexa, Kansas; Pai is a native of Parsons, Kansas.

The FCC’s Office of Media Relations is the agency’s liaison to the news media and provides information to the public about the work of the FCC, manages content on the Commission’s website, oversees the release of FCC documents, leads the agency’s social media accounts, and manages audio/visual services for the Commission’s public meeting room
