WASHINGTON, D.C. — Mark Thursday, Nov. 21, on your calendar for an important day at the FCC that could shape how it moves forward with any “modernization” of its regulatory policies and ownership rules pertaining to broadcast media.

A host of radio and television industry leaders, including Radio + Television Business Report Chairman Eric Rhoads, will appear as panelists for the daylong event, scheduled to take place at FCC Headquarters.

The FCC Media Bureau is hosting a Symposium, named “Current and Future Trends in the Broadcast Radio and Television Industries,” designed to gather information and insight from broadcast media experts about the current and future trends, challenges, and opportunities facing the broadcast radio and television industries.

Two panels including mix of large and small broadcasters will be the focal points of the event, which starts at 10am and ends just past 3pm.

Current and Future Trends in the Radio Industry will be discussed in a 90-minute midday session; TV industry experts and leaders will get their say following a lunch break.

Moderating the Radio panel is Jacobs Media Strategies President Fred Jacobs.

Joining Rhoads as panelists are:

Hartley Adkins, President of Integrated Revenue Strategy, iHeart Media
Caroline Beasley, Chief Executive Officer, Beasley Media Group
Mark Fratrik, Senior Vice President, BIA Advisory Services
Alfred C. Liggins III, Chief Executive Officer, Urban One
Karen Slade, Vice President/General Manager, KJLH Radio in Los Angeles
Jeff Warshaw, Chief Executive Officer, Connoisseur Media

Cowen Washington Research Group Managing Director Paul Gallant will serve as the moderator of the TV panel, which begins at 1:15pm.

Panelists scheduled to appear are:

John Buergler, Senior VP, Univision Communications
Joseph M. Di Scipio, Senior VP, Fox Corporation
Jimmy Goodman, President/COO, Capitol Broadcasting Co. and WRAL-5/Raleigh
Brett Jenkins, EVP/Chief Technology Officer, Nexstar Media Group
Alan Miles, EVP for Partnerships, Operations and Marketing, Nielsen Media
Anne Schelle, Managing Director, Pearl TV

The Symposium is open to the public. Attendees are advised to arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to the start of the Symposium to allow time to go through the FCC’s security process.

The FCC will accommodate as many attendees as possible; however, admittance will be limited to seating availability.

In addition, the FCC will provide audio and video coverage of the meeting over the Internet. The event will be streamed live and available from the FCC’s web page at www.fcc.gov/live.

  1. So who on the panel represents small radio broadcasters? Looks like all corporate and major market folks.

  2. No Class A, LPTV, or indie community translator participation. LPTV itself will have more next gen tv transmitters than the full powers, Guess we do not count. Poor form from the Media Bureau!
