Stations still operating an analog stream are being asked to participate in a nationwide DTV test on 5/21/09 by the FCC. The plan is to have all such stations air a five-minute PSA three times, at 7:30AM, 12:30PM and 6:30PM. The idea is to prove to viewers who need to take action to continue receiving broadcast TV after 6/12/09 that they do indeed need to take action.
RBR/TVBR observation: There are still between 2%-3% of US households that are not yet DTV-ready, depending on whose numbers you believe. A test like this will hurt a little, but if it can whittle down those percentages even more, that’s a good thing.
