FCC white space proposal keys on protecting incumbents

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is all we know. The agenda for the September Open Meeting, on the schedule for Thursday, 9/23/10, leads off with an item on allowing unlicensed devices to operate in the spectrum holes between broadcast television stations. The good news is that the plank ends with the clause “while protecting incumbent services.”

Here is the full description of the plank: “The Commission will consider a Second Memorandum Opinion and Order addressing 17 petitions for reconsideration of the rules adopted in this proceeding to make unused spectrum in the TV bands available for unlicensed broadband wireless devices while protecting incumbent services.”

Three other items are of little or no concern to broadcasters: A school/library/universal service broadband item and two E911 items.

The meeting is scheduled to kick off at 10:30 eastern.
