Another quadrennial review workshop is on the FCC schedule. On 3/4/10, a session entitled “Serving the Public Interest in the Digital Era” will convene at the Commission’s HQ in Southwest Washington DC. It will be looking at the prospects for commercial media with particular attention paid to radio and television. A separate look at non-profit media will be forthcoming.
From the FCC, here is the meeting’s agenda:
* A brief history and overview of policies involving “public interest” requirements for commercial media and telecommunications companies;
* The state of local commercial broadcast TV and radio news and information; and
* The impact of media convergence and the emergence of the Internet, mobile technologies, and digital media on FCC media policy.
