Finale: ‘American Idol’ cleans the clock of network competition

There were two finales: The winner and the leaving of Simon. The season finale of AMERICAN IDOL (8-10:07p) revealed Lee DeWyze as the winner and posted an 8.2 rating among Adults 18-49 with 24.2 Mil Total Viewers.


FOX won the night among Adults 18-49, Total Viewers, Adults 18-34, Teens and all key demos.  In fact, FOX outperformed the combined 4-network competition (ABC, CBS, NBC, CW) for the night by +44% among Adults 18-49, +41% among Adults 18-34, +39% among Teens and +23% in Total Viewers.

Compared to last Wednesday AMERICAN IDOL was up +34% among Adults 18-49, +48% among Adults 18-34, +28% among Teens and +27% in Total Viewers.

This season (Most Current ratings vs. the comparable Most Current), AMERICAN IDOL achieved year-over-year retention of 90% retention among Adults 18-49 and 91% in Total Viewers.

Competition:

ABC ran the movie Transformers (1.8/5) from 8-11p.
CBS aired a special Undercover Boss repeat (1.5/5) at 8p, followed by the season finales of Criminal Minds (3.1/8) and CSI: NY (2.7/8). Criminal Minds was down -11% from last season’s finale and posted a season low.  CSI:NY was down -16% from last season’s finale.

NBC ran repeats of Minute To Win It (0.9/3) and Law & Order: SVU (1.1/3).
