As many millennials can tell you, the all-time favorite song of Peter Griffin of Family Guy is “Surfin’ Bird” by the Trashmen.
The song is widely known for its lyric, “The bird is the word.”
Indeed, that’s the case today with a radio station sale involving a Class A FM in a town that’s known as “The Stars & Stripes Capital of Louisiana.”
The station trading hands is KMAR-FM 95.9, which serves the town of Winnsboro, La.
It airs Country programming, provided by Westwood One, and is presently owned by Boeuf River Broadcasting Company.
That’s about to change, as KMAR-FM is being sold by Boeuf River — led by Tom Gay — to Bird Broadcasting Network.
The sale price: $410,000.
A good faith Earnest Money Deposit of $10,000 has been made by Bird to Boeuf River; the remainder is due at closing.
Serving as the broker in this transaction is Bill Whitley of Media Services Group, representing Boeuf River. He will receive an $8,000 fee for his services in this deal; payment will be split 50-50 between the buyer and seller, at closing.
Both Boeuf River and Bird have retained attorney Larry Perry to handle all FCC matters pertaining to the transaction.
Bird is a 50-50 partnership owned by Nancy and John Moroni of Gilbert, La.
This marks Bird’s maiden flight into radio station ownership.
