Format flips in DC—we don’t need two Smooth Jazz HD2’s

0

Clear Channel’s WASH-FM DC launched a 24 hour Smooth Jazz stream on its  HD-2 Channel Friday (it was Love Songs). Meanwhile, Heritage Smooth Jazz WJZW-FM, also in the DC market, flipped to Oldies and put Smooth Jazz on its HD-2 channel.

RBR observation: We don’t need two Smooth Jazz multicast channels in DC. If you want the younger listeners to go out and buy HD Radios, launch formats they’d like to hear—and do hear—on their iPods, Internet stations and satellite: Indie Rock (check out WIYY-FM Baltimore’s HD3 stream); Reggae; Rave/Techno/Drum & Bass. Let’s not waste multicast streams in-market on duplications.
