The chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, John Cornyn (R-TX) was one of the first to ask for a refund of contributions to the Senate campaign of Charlie Crist (R-, no – make that I-FL). Crist now has another request for full refunding to contend with.
According to the Associated Press, 20 “prominent Republicans” have fired off a letter to Crist saying that they supported him because he was a member of their Party, and that in exiting he broke their trust.
They are concerned because they not only donated money to him personally, they also persuaded others to donate over the course of many years. At any rate, some but apparently not all who signed the letter were donors.
But they all believe that full refunds are in order for all who request them.
Crist’s abandonment of his campaign for the Republican nomination leaves it to Marco Rubio. US Rep. Kendrick Meek (D-FL) is the leading, though not necessarily the eventual, candidate from the Democratic Party in what is shaping up to be a three-way race in November.
RBR-TVBR observation: Will the cash taken back from Crist find its way to Rubio or other Florida Republicans? Broadcasters with avails to fill sure hope so!
