Kaelan Dorr will be the company’s executive political producer. Dorr worked on President Trump’s 2016 campaign and was subsequently appointed director of congressional communications.
Dorr wasted no time announcing his hire in the president’s favorite social forum. “I’m proud to announce I’ve joined Sinclair Broadcast Group as Executive Political Producer!” he said Dorr in a tweet Tuesday.
Political veteran Boris Epshteyn will take Dorr under his wing and the pair will collaborate on Epshteyn’s segment Bottom Line With Boris. “Kaelan is one of DC’s most promising young talents, bringing a ton of energy and unique perspective,” Epshteyn said.
Dorr has rebutted speculation that this latest White House connection may indicate an unhealthy symbiosis between Sinclair and Trump in a Bottom Line segment: “In terms of my analysis playing during your local news, as you see my segments are very clearly marked as commentary. The same cannot be said for cable and broadcast news hosts who inject their opinions and bias into news coverage all the time, without drawing any lines between them.”
