The long slog that will characterize the battle over whether or not to impose a performance royalty on radio stations just got a little bit easier as the Local Radio Freedom Act picked up more support, including a particularly prominent member.
The bill is in direct opposition to the recently-introduced Fair Play Fair Pay Act.
The new LRFA co-sponsors are all members of the House. They include Vern Buchanan (FL-16), Bill Johnson (OH-6), Bill Posey (FL-8) and Fred Upton (MI-6) (pictured).
The addition of Upton is particularly noteworthy, since he is Chair of the influential House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and is also former chair of the Communications Subcommittee.
The total number of House members signed on to LRFA has now reached 162. There are 13 additional members of Congress on the Senate side.
